Student Nurses Association/Council

Introduction 
The student nurses association is a nationwide organization that aims for reaping the best nurses by sowing the seeds right from the student period. The student nurses association organized is
associated with and under the jurisdiction of the TNAI (Trained association of India). In addition to providing a means of personal and professional development for the nursing student. Every year, the TNAI invites nursing students to come and join the student nurses association of India. It is a nationwide organization of nursing students established in 1929. The main purpose of forming the SNA is to facilitate the nursing students all-round development and accredit them to Join TNAI as qualified nurses. At present there are over 1000 SNA units with more than 1 lakh student nurses as members all over the country.

Mission
Promoting professional and social unity among the nursing students of our nursing college, providing a closer bond and more unified spirit among all nursing students through group activities and stimulating interest and understanding in the program of the professional nursing organizations.

The objectives of S.N.A is;

  • To help students to uphold the dignity and ideals of the profession for which they are qualifying.
  • To promote a co-operative spirit among students for common good.
  • To furnish Nurses in training with advice in their courses of study leading up to professional qualification
  • To encourage leadership ability and help students to gain a wide knowledge of the Nursing profession in its different branches and aspects.
  • To increase the student's social contacts and general knowledge in order to help them take their place in the world when they have finished their training
  • To encourage both professional and recreational meetings games and sports.
  • To provide a special section in The Nursing Journal of India for the benefit of students.
  • To encourage students to compete for prizes in the various competitions and also to attend national and regional conferences.

Membership

  • Fees are minimal and easily met by the nursing student.
  • A student opting for the new Membership Plan has to pay just a lump sum Rs. 2,000/- (inclusive of SNA subscription for 4 years, Scholarship Fund and SNA to TNAI Membership fee) and he/ she shall become a full TNAI Member automatically after completion of the course

Scholarship

  • The Student Nurses' Association awards to the students of ANM/GNM and B.Sc programme. An amount of Rs.750/- is given for every month and Rs.2000/- is given as one time grant for buying books. This amount is given for their entire period of study.

Activities

  • Organization of meetings and conferences.
  • Maintainance Of SNA Diary: It was instituted in 1939. This is a biennial record book drawn up for the use of the unit secretaries to record all unit activities – professional, educational, social-cultural and recreational activities. These dairies are assessed by the state SNA advisors and two best are sent to National SNA advisor for evaluation and award.
  • The exhibition is one of the oldest, useful and very popular activities of the Association. The students prepare posters on the subjects taught to them. The best one from the state under each section is entertained at the national level.
  • To increase self-confidence in the students and help them gain skill in communication the association arranges debates, panel discussions seminars, The students are encouraged to write on professional topics for The Nursing Journal of India.
  • The students undertake community projects – health surveys, school health projects, medical camps etc.
  • To acquaint the general public with the Nursing profession, the general public is invited to the celebrations and festivals.
  • Fundraising is an important and necessary activity. The fundraising is done at all levels.
  • Socio-cultural and recreational activities like dance, dramatics, and music, sports competitions are carried out to bring about overall development in the students.
  • In addition to foresaid activities, there are numerous other activities which are carried out by the units and students are awarded for their both scholastic and talent performances.
  • The students are encouraged to arrange their own extracurricular activities and thus to accept leadership roles.
